Kohl Rod & Custom started as a father and son business in  2005. Danny (Bomber) Kohl has been working in the automotive industry for most of his adult life. After leaving school in the mid-1980s16 he starting work as a spanner hand at the local garage, after a few years he moved into a motor trimming apprenticeship. Always into classic cars and hot rods, it was no surprise his son Zachary headed down a similar path. Since leaving school Zachary has gained over 15 years of practical experience in mechanical engineering within the automotive industry. He also has qualifications in advanced welding and fabrication. We undertake all types of vehicle modifications including engine conversions, chassis fabrication and brake, suspension and steering modifications. All work is completed to LTSA standards and requirements and we can help with LVVTA certification at our workshop. At this stage, we sub-contract out our paintwork but are looking at setting up a paint shop in the near future.

LVVTA certification

We can arrange LVVTA (Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association) certification inspections. This is required for suspension lifts (and lowering) over 50mm and all 4WD body lifts. It is also required for engine conversions and most other types of vehicle modifications. We work with a certifying engineer from Palmerston North who performs the inspections and certifications at our workshop.

Engine, gearbox and diff swaps and conversions

We can replace your tired old engine, gearbox or differential with a used or rebuilt item, or repower it with a bigger, stronger option.
